Schlieren, Switzerland – August 17, 2026
The combined leadership role will strengthen operational excellence, digitalization, and technology development as InSphero continues to grow and scale its organization.
InSphero AG today announced the promotion of Olivier Frey, PhD, to the combined role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Previously Vice President of Technologies and Platforms, Dr. Frey joins InSphero’s C-Level Team and will lead both the company’s technology strategy and its continued drive toward greater operational efficiency and advanced automation.
The appointment comes as InSphero continues to grow, integrate new capabilities, and scale its operations. As COO, Olivier Frey will focus on strengthening end-to-end processes, cross-functional collaboration, digitalization, and automation across the organization. As CTO, he will continue to lead InSphero’s Technologies and Platforms group, aligning technology and platform development, engineering, and manufacturing technologies with customer needs and the company’s long-term strategy.
“Olivier’s promotion is very well deserved and an important step in the continued evolution of InSphero,” said Dr. Jan Lichtenberg, CEO and Co-Founder of InSphero. “He combines deep technical expertise with a strong ability to prioritize, structure complex initiatives, and turn ideas into execution. Bringing our technology and operational responsibilities together under his leadership will help us become an even more efficient, scalable, and digitally enabled organization.”
Olivier Frey has been part of InSphero for nearly a decade and has played a key role in advancing the company’s technology strategy and platform development. With a scientific background in microfluidics, BioMEMS, and microsystem development from ETH Zürich and EPF Lausanne, he brings deep expertise in advanced 3D in vitro and organ-on-chip technologies. He is also actively engaged in industry and scientific networks through EUROoCS and SLAS and serves as project lead for InSphero’s work within the European UNLOOC consortium. His broad experience across science, technology, and organizational leadership positions him well to align technology, operations, and business priorities as InSphero continues to scale and evolve.
“Having seen InSphero grow over almost ten years, I am excited to take on this new responsibility and help define the priorities that will enable our technologies and our organization to have the greatest impact,” said Dr. Olivier Frey. “Innovation has always been a strong personal motivation for me. At the same time, I am humbled by the scope of the opportunity ahead and the potential we have to further improve how we work. I look forward to working across the company to drive greater automation and efficiency while continuing to advance cutting-edge technologies that differentiate InSphero.”
InSphero also extends its appreciation to David Fluri, VP Model Innovation and Commercialization, for his significant contribution to building the company’s Operations organization and for taking on the additional responsibility of leading Operations on an interim basis. He will continue to support the transition while focusing on model innovation and commercialization.
