Lightium, which is based in Schlieren, wins the 2026 Swiss Economic Award in the Deep Tech/Life Sciences category

Lightium is this year’s winner of the Swiss Economic Award. Through this competition, the Swiss Economic Forum (SEF) and its partners—Helbling, Swisscom, and UBS—support young business talent in Switzerland. Nine finalists presented their business models to the main jury and the audience at the SEF, which took place on June 4 and 5 in Interlaken. The organizers are now announcing the winners of the three categories in a press release.

Lightium, which is based at the Bio-Technopark Schlieren-Zurich, won the Deep Tech/Life Science category. The company develops photonic chips based on thin-film lithium niobate and operates one of the few open-access chip factories to date. This technology enables fast, energy-efficient optical data transmission for applications such as data centers, telecommunications, quantum computing, and other high-performance technologies. The jury praised Lightium “for its technological depth and the potential to build a central infrastructure for future optical systems.”
